ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodivergence characterised by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that can impact daily functioning and development. Rather than simply a difficulty of attention, it is more accurately understood as a difficulty in regulating attention, an inability to filter out distractions or shift focus when necessary, often accompanied by challenges in executive functions like planning, organisation, and emotional regulation. While traditionally associated with hyperactive children, ADHD manifests differently across the lifespan and between genders, with many individuals (particularly women and girls) presenting with a more internalized, inattentive presentation that can be overlooked. However, the ADHD brain also frequently possesses unique strengths, including hyperfocus on areas of interest, high energy, resilience, and creative, divergent thinking.
