Autism

Autism is a neurodivergence characterised by a dyad of qualitative differences in social interaction and the presence of focused, repetitive behaviours or interests. From a neurodiversity perspective, autism represents a divergence in information processing and monotropic (intense, singular) attention interests. There is a mismatch between the autistic individual’s communication style and the expectations of a predominantly neurotypical environment, a phenomenon known as the 'double empathy problem.

My research focuses on autism diagnosis in the NHS, including interactions during the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2).
